Sources and calculation method
The planner separates official dates from its own leave-window calculation, and keeps a checked fallback so a temporary source failure cannot invent or erase holidays.
Primary source
Bank holiday titles, dates, divisions and notes come from the official GOV.UK bank holidays service and its JSON endpoint.
Current build status: live endpoint validated. Data timestamp: 2026-07-21. The bundled fallback was last checked on 2026-07-22.
Validation and fallback
During a refresh, the build requires all three divisions, ISO-formatted dates, a title, notes and the source's boolean display flag. If the request times out, returns an error or fails that shape check, the site builds from the last manually checked 2026–2028 snapshot and reports that fallback status.
How the break finder works
- Start on every date in the 365 days after the date you choose.
- Extend a candidate break one day at a time, up to 21 continuous calendar days.
- Charge one leave day for Monday–Friday unless that exact date is an official bank holiday in your chosen division.
- Stop a candidate when it exceeds your leave-day allowance.
- Choose the longest break; ties prefer fewer booked leave days, then the earlier start.
The calculation assumes a Monday–Friday working week. Shift patterns, employer closure days and local public holidays require a separate calculation.

Bank holidays do not automatically create a right to paid leave, and an employer may include them in a worker's annual-leave entitlement. Confirm dates and employment arrangements before making a booking.
